SAINTS BE PRAISED: The streets of the city fill with the sounds,smells, and sights of Italy as Malden celebrates the annual SaintRocco's Feast tomorrow through Sunday.

There will be food, rides, games, entertainment, and more. Thefeast is sponsored by the Saint Rocco Society, which began the event77 years ago.

Festivities begin tomorrow at 7 p.m. with a procession behind thestatue of Saint Rocco. Entertainment by the New Life Band follows.Saturday events run from 5 to 11 p.m., with the Classmates performingat 7 p.m.

On Sunday at 2 p.m., the festival honors Saint Rocco with a largerprocession through the streets of Malden with the Italian AmericanBand of Lawrence. The local band ItaMia performs from 6 to 10 p.m.

Steven Ultrino , president of the Saint Rocco Society, said whilethe feast is a neighborhood event, it attracts visitors from allover.

HEALTHY CHOICES: Three local organizations recently were honoredfor helping improve the health of the community. Health Quarters,which offers reproductive education and medical services regardlessof a person's ability to pay; the Beverly Dental Clinic at theBriscoe Middle School; and the Gloucester Child Sexual AbusePrevention Partnership were given Community Health Awards by theNorth Shore/Cape Ann Community Health Network. Health Quarters hasoffice in Beverly, Haverhill, and Lynn.

Each organization received a $200 cash award.

ON THE LINKS FOR LINK: The Ira Motor Group of Danvers raised about$10,000 during its annual golf tournament at the Ferncroft CountryClub to benefit Strongest Link AIDS Services, Inc.

Strongest Link, based in Danvers, provides services to individualsaffected by HIV and AIDS in Essex County.

The nonprofit promotes the health, well-being, and self-sufficiency of patients by providing case management, wellnessprograms, and other support. It also offers prevention and educationprograms for the community.

This is the ninth year the Ira Motor Group held the golftournament, raising a total of $200,000.

'Strongest Link provides so many services to so many people on theNorth Shore, and we were honored to support them again this year,'said David Rosenberg , president of Ira Motor Group.

LEADERS OF THE PACK: Housing Families Inc. of Malden has teamedwith Bob's Discount Furniture in Saugus to collect and distributeschool supplies and backpacks to homeless school-age children andtheir families in Boston, Malden, and Medford.

'While homeless families struggle every day just to survive, theneeds of sending a child to school can become a tremendous financialburden,' said Cathy Poulin of Bob's. 'We hope to make the beginningof the school season a happier one for many of these families.'

The supplies will be collected throughout the month anddistributed at the end of August. They can be dropped off at Bob's onRoute 1 in Saugus or at Housing Families Inc., 354 Cross St., Malden.

CHURCH CRUISE: You can enjoy a night on the water and help out alocal church during a Scenic Sunset Cruise Aug. 18.

The cruise leaves from 7 Seas Wharf in downtown Gloucester at 7p.m. Visitors can enjoy the scenery along the Annisquam River, sevenlighthouses, and Rockport and Gloucester harbors.

There's music, dancing, food, and cash bar.

WHO'S WHAT WHERE: Rong Tang of Saugus has been named an assistantprofessor at the Simmons Graduate School of Library and InformationScience in Boston. She previously was an assistant professor atCatholic University of America in Washington, D.C. . . .

John P. Kellogg of Saugus is the new assistant chair of the musicbusiness/management department at Berklee College of Music in Boston.Kellogg is an entertainment lawyer, author, performer, and musicbusiness educator. He comes to Berklee from the University ofColorado/Denver, where he was instrumental in developing the student-run record label CAM Records. He recently was inducted into the BlackEntertainment and Sports Lawyers Association Hall of Fame. . . .

Chris Rovendro of Salem is the new dining room and functionmanager at the Landing Restaurant in Marblehead. He served with theNavy in the Gulf War.
